In today's fast-paced world, people are eating fewer home-cooked meals and more meals out. Keep these sensible tips in mind when you're ordering and stay moving toward your goal.

Don't arrive at the restaurant hungry. Eat a piece of fruit or a serving of vegetables before you leave the house to avoid overindulging on the bread basket or entrée.

Look for sensible healthier options. Try replacing French fries with a baked potato or try the vegetarian option on the menu.

Keep it simple. Look for grilled, roasted or steamed options instead of breaded, fried or smothered in butter, cheese or cream sauce.

Size up the portions. Order half portions or ask for a carry-out container as soon as your entrée arrives.
