Irishheart,

One ounce of a boneless, skinless chicken *** has approximately 35 calories.  Therefore, 4 ounces would have approximately 140 calories.

Hi Ali!   Have you heard of any health benefits to cherry juice? I had two people that I know tell me this is supposed to be good for aches and pains (inflamation problems). I went online to , I think Web MD, and read that it has some benfits, so started drinking a 6 oz glass everyday (yes, I do count the cal/nutrients in my menu :-) Just wondering if you've heard anything beneficial. So far I haven't seen any improvement in my problem by drinking this, but maybe it takes awhile....PAnn

PAnn,

The scientific studies regarding cherry juice and inflammation are limited.  The research became popular in 1999 after Michigan State University published a study on cherries and inflammation.  They found that the antioxidants in cherries, anthocyanins (the component that gives the red/blue color to fruits and vegetables), can be more effective in relieving inflammation that regular ibuprofen.  This seems to be tested mostly in tart cherries and tart cherry products.  However, I could not find an exact amount that is recommended based on any large clinical studies.

I'm glad to hear that you are making sure to count the juice calories each day.  If you're looking for the benefits, I would at least recommend making sure that it is tart cherry juice.  Another option would be to have a serving of fresh or dried tart cherries each day instead.  This way you would even get a bit of fiber in!

Hope that helps!

Thanks Ali. I never thought about the fiber benefits of cherries themselves. I am continuing the Montmorency cherry juice until I finish the jug. I know that you can buy the tart concentrate and the brand I have been buying is also tart cherry juice. So far I  haven't seen any improvement, ut that may just be that I have something else going on, too....PAnn
