No way can I compete with the teens and triathalon trainers.  I am, however, motivated to lose weight.  Are there any of the slightly older set that are interested in a somewhat lesser challenge by the week/month.  My goal is 2 pounds per week.  I'm rather short in stature and need to lose at least 40-50 pounds overall, but prefer to deal in small increments such as 2 pounds per week or even 5 pounds per month.  In know the initial loss is more rapid than the down the road loss.  In the first four days of this diet I lost 5 pounds, but I do know that in reality I can only expect 1 to 2 pounds per week hereafter.  I don't want to get discouraged, so I'm looking for  others that share this goal and are willing to help and motivate each of us?  How about it ladies (and gentlemen)?  Anyone interested in some good old fashioned competiton on a weekly/monthly basis?

 Hi Nana2Twins,

I would love to be in your challenge.  My goal is 2 pounds/week also.  I need to lose about the same as you.

Keep in touch.

Hi...........I'm in....I feel you need to take baby steps in terms of saying the amt. of pounds you want off.   My first goal is 5 pounds...when I hit that I will begin again...but would love to chat with anyone for support.   My problem is I am an excellent cook, and over-eat portion size.    I do eat healthy foods, but have more than one sweet tooth in my mouth.     Count me in...I actually started on Sunday, have been staying in my calorie zone for each day so far.   As long as I keep in check on the nutritional log here I see what is really going into this body.   Well  here's to a good day for all, remember the eyes control the mind, the hand holds the fork, and the arm raises it to the mouth...it all happens in an instant.............!   Be on the alert for any thoughtless acts by the arm.......ha ha.>>>    Glenbury in Fla.   "61"

Welcome aboard Glenbury.  We're now a committee of three - anyone else want to go along for the ride?  I started my diet on Sunday as well.  I have a sweet tooth/salty cravings.  I'll go from wanting to have a chocolate candy bar and honey bun in my hand all day to wanting and craving chips and nuts.  I'm also a fast food junkie.  I love a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with cheese.  I'm a true southerner, so was brought up on deep fried, loads of fat foods.  My weakness are the truly fattening foods.  Good old fried chicken, with mashed potatoes and gravy and homemade biscuits and I'm in heaven.  I'm battling a long term, deep seeded love of fatty foods.  I signed up for the diet menu and have altered it somewhat but did select items from the list that was provided on this site.  This week rather than frying the chicken as is my habit, I marinated it with herbs and grilled it.  I also worked on portion control.  Typically I would have eaten that whole huge chicken ***, but I cut it into strips and that one *** topped a fresh green salad for three meals.  I had home grown tomatoes in the yard so topped it with that and I actually enjoyed it.  I'm trying to do the bars in the morning because I want something to sink my teeth into, a snack and then a shake for lunch.  I find if I eat a small snack in the afternoon and prepare a healthy evening meal and use a smaller plate so it looks as if I have more, I can resist the evening munchies.  I've been going to the school each evening and walking the track.  Tomorrow I'm going to air up the tires on my bike, buy a baby seat to attach and take turns riding my twin grandsons around the block.  The reasoning for this is if I try to stop riding too soon, the wails will motivate me to continue on my ride.  So welcome aboard Senior Citizen and Glenbury.  I guess we should decide on a day to begin and then compare notes and losses.  I'm fine with a group of three, but would like to give a few more a chance to join - anybody up for the competition beginning Friday?  By no means do I plan on going off the diet prior to, but thought if we got prepared, we could begin posting results, etc.

Oh boy..............wow, I need you to re-read your post..........it made me so hungry........Ha.>...Ha>           just your decriptive sentences I swear I could smell it.................that stops right now.............no more talking about all that type of food.    If this group is to survive we must  talk the right talk.    We all know how wonderful bad food is............however we all wouldn't be here if it did wonderful things to us, thus, fact is fact...........it just can't have a daily place in our lives...........perhaps once in awhile, but in order for  this to work, positive thinking about other things in life than food have to take over the brain.   They are choices, making a correct choice at each meal, or just going to the fridge, or pantry...there can be lots of great choices in there if you fill it with them.   So  lets  talk about the food we are now choosing to make us healthy and look good.   One thing for sure.............the mirror doesn't lie.......clothes do not shrink,  and we aren't getting any younger.       My dinner tonite will be flounder, fresh broccolli, tossed salad, an apple and I will toast us all to a great beginning with a 4 oz. glass of my favorite red.....Here's to finishing a day at a time and being happy with that accomplishment.......Glenbury in Fla.

Hi Snapples...........the more the merrier, I am just happy to find the same forum that I found yesterday on this site......Congrats on 22 pounds, I would be dancing in the street.   I bet you look great.   Yesterday I watched a taping of Oprah I had saved with her Dr. Oz.....about aging and health...this guy nails it everytime...it is all about us taking care of ourself.   Making the right decisions of how we treat our only body, what we put in it for fuel and how that fuel effects the person we are.   Once you understand that food controls your emotions, attitude, health, energy, how can you not realize the good from the bad........food.    It's amazing haven't you or anyone here been eating all the right stuff and finally one day you say to yourself, I can't believe how good I feel..........and when you are a junkie...can you really say that type of eating makes anyone feel great........maybe the first bite......after that you are full and take a swing down.   It's mostly the sugar and tons of carbs with me...   I do feel SF offers a wonderful site and gives people to share with one another a place to spill it out, or be a helper to motivate a positive thought, even if it is one another person can carry with them for that one day.   So stay determined, and focused, and if you have to belong to several groups, who cares as long a some of them work for you and get you to be at a comfortable healthy weight.    I say use every means out there to stay on the right path..So,  Happy Thursday to you, cheers to your success so far, and remember think first, then make that choice at meal and snack times..it only takes an instant..  Catch ya later......   Glenbury from Fla.

Hi, I would like to join this challenge too-- I need help, I cannot seem to get into a routine of eating right and fitness.  I am 50+, I seem to make every excuse of why I don't work out each day, and then 'fall off the wagon' as far as eating goes too!  I have about 20 lbs to lose, I am barely making it into my work clothes and wearing long tops to cover up my way-too-tight pants.  I know other people may say 20 pounds is not that much, but I can tell it's not good for my health. And the people at work are not helping either by bringing in  cakes, doughnuts, and also wanting to get fast food at lunch.  My lack of exercise is also creating back pain and sluggishness.  I look forward to the support I might be able to get and give here!

Snapples and Picolat - welcome aboard.  I just joined this past week.  I am also in the 50 plus category and until the last few years was always fairly petite and small.  My weight began inching up first by a few pounds, nothing much - but on someone just over 5 feet every pound showed.  If I had tackled it then, it probably would have been easier, but instead I just bought a size larger clothes and they were so comfortable, I just ate a little more, gained a little more and again bought a size larger clothes.  This continued until I had packed on an extra 60 pounds of what I began with.  I know realisitcally as I get older I won't get down to where I was as a 20 year old, but looking at the charts I'm a good 50 pounds above where I should be.  I need the motivation and someone looking over my shoulder.  I'm sincerely hoping that we together can provide that motivation for each other.  Tomorrow morning I plan on signing on and reporting my weight - I began last week.  Hopefully we can give each other hints and keep everyone interested, happy, healthy, and losing weight.  I faced one of my biggest challenges last night.  Family and friends wanted to get together and give my daughter who is pregnant gifts for the new baby.  She absolutely refused to have a shower.  To make it easier we scheduled a time we could all meet at this fabulous, family owned Italian restaurant.  I was treating 12 women and my twin grandsons to a wonderful dinner.  They were ordering all these pastas, appetizers, breadsticks, etc.  I managed to keep my sanity and think about what today would bring when I got on the scales.  With a mountain of heavy sauces and wonderful aromas around me, I stayed true to myself and ordered a large greek salad.  I tossed the high calorie items aside, ate slowly and placed the appetizer tray toward the other end of the table.  That was my first big test of willpower.  I managed to overcome temptation, but my hubbie who met us up there a little later to pick up the twins so daughter could open the gifts succumbed.  He had a to go order and trust me, it was not something on our diet.  I'd love to hear how each of you face and withstand such temptations - what little warnings go off and from where do you draw your willpower?  I actually gained mine from knowing that I am coming here Friday morning to report my weight and my losses and knowing that others here are in the same boat and need just as much encouragement and motivation.  So thank you - each of you.  Your desire to go into this challenge with me helped me stay firm and on track.

hi  Glenbury,

i just got done with my morning exercises, . Idid 35 min 0f 2- sets of 20

alot of work, i only have been doing strength traing for 2-days before i just

watched tapes, walk off the pounds and few others here i picked up at sales ect, another thing is i walked alot on my treadmill, only if i could"nt get out  side, or i worked in garden 1/2-hour.

i watch oprah too, but not yesterday , she"s funny . y esterday i watched those shows called house hunters, and remodlings.

yea  your right about the eating the right stuff, before i was sent to doctor  i was always on run, i would skip breakfast, or grab something to eat on way out the door, or stop at a gas station for pop, or cuppuccino every day, not good for yea i knew that now .  so i made a bet with my husband  that i could leave my cappuccino alone for a month will he told my  youngest brother about it , i didnt knew, any way he also goes to same gas stations all time ., so  i made it into the 3rd week , wow it was getting harder not to have one so i thought i could snick one sense no one was to knew about it,ha ,ha. any way at the end of month i said to my husband hey wheres my betting money , he laughs and said  " you never made it to end of month."  i said how did you knew i had one last week. then just as i said that here comes my little brother laughing at me, ouch those two , from then on i knew if i could leave cappuccino alone i could

leave other bad stuff alone, oh if i want a treat now and then i will have it but only 1 serving .it helps when you keep alot of fruit and veg. in house now i grab them if i want to eat. i also weigh, measure all my foods.

will  i hope you"r having good luck, i am looking forward to this challenge,   talk to yea later it"s breakfast time.   snapples

hi Kathy,

you sound like me i left my self go to after i had kids and then working all the time, and it"s not easy when you work out of the home an all co-workers bring goodies. but now i dont have to worry about all that good food seating there,ha,ha, no i still will have somrthing good but only the sreving amount,.

i know how it is when you go out to eat at a  restaurant , we go once a month, and boy its had to stop eating , i start with all the vegetables and fruit, then go get my other foods later or if i do go back for 2 i eat more fruit and veggie. do you weigh an measure your foods? thats easy fr me to do i cant eyeball it  or what ever you call that. will to tell you the truth its very hard to withstand temptation, i figure it this way on one side of my shoulders i have a angel on my other side i have a little devil so when i eat too much of a not so good food i can blame the devil , but when i do it right its my angel getting the credit, good one. no if i want it go ahead and have it make sure its not more than a serving. dont beat your self up about it latter, if you make a mistake just try to do better at the next meal another thing i try to do before i go , is to eat alittle something . will i am with you all the way - it"s good luck to each and every one of us. my problem right now is i think i am stuck at one of those things called aplateaus, hard little stinkers to get through. i have been at this same weight for 2 weeks almost  help!!!!!!!!!!   will gotta go get some walking in . do you walk or do tapes? catch  yea later  ........  and kathy bye way good luck.       snapples

Hi Picolat...pretty name.........Hello everyone else, I am doing good have found this site 3 times now.....So I see maybe we are deciding on Friday as weigh in day...good idea instead of a Monday.  Weekends sometimes throw you a curve we have to be realistic here..   I doubt any of us want this to be a daunting affair.....Nana...kudos to you eating out...however, sometimes we think eating those salads are the best choice...you probably could have eaten a few cheese ravioli, and a small toss salad with dressing on the side and actually eaten healthier.    I used to see a nutrionalist and was shocked at what this or that was better for you...   She told me people do not understand that if you eat a carb..put a protein with it and a veg. or fruit along with that.   The balance of the three make your body work like a well oiled machine.  I have been using this concept when I  eat healthy and it works your metabolism at 100%..     Try this for a few days and see your energy go straight up and you will be full at all times with no cravings.   This is also included in any snacks you have...eat a carb..put a small piece of cheese with it and some grapes or carrot sticks..but its the combination that works the body..and it makes you think each and every time you reach for something that you have to eat the other two items..   Eventually you will re-think your eating habits   It forces you to look at the food choices you are making and being responsible for the right choices   With that said,  I like the Friday date, we all seem to be on the same page here, so here's to a Happy Thursday, make it our mission to better our health and inspire one another...Ready, Set, GO>>>>>>>>>  Glenbury from Fla

Glenbury, that is such a great tip about the carbs and veggies, etc.  I'll definitely start incorporating that into my meal planning.

I am very excited to find so many that are so willing to accept the challenge and participate.  I think we can be great motivation for each other.  I do believe as some of the others have stated that every once in a while we will give in to a craving, but we can't beat ourselves up about it and the key will be to get back on track.

We all have the same goal - to lose weight and be healthy.  We are varying in age and physical abilities, but I think we're pretty much a good match for each other.  Most importantly we are all realistic and all believe in setting realistic goals and continuing through to reach the end goal.  I don't want to set a goal of 50 pounds and be disappointed because it realistically won't happen within a short period.  We didn't gain weight overnight and we won't lose it overnight.  I think weekly goals are perfect for each of us.  I think moderate exercise will also be the key.  I know I can't get out and run 5 miles or do 2 h ours of cardio in a gym.  I want to improve my stamina and strength along the way, but I have to face it - I'm a grandmother, complete with gray hair and wrinkles.  I'm not going to be running a marathon anytime in the near future.  In my opinion I think we have found others with like goals and philosophies.  I hope to hear from each of you tomorrow and we can compare notes.  Take care buddies.  Again, thanks Glenbury for the great tip on food combinations.  Subsisting on salads alone would get pretty boring.
