Just be sure to read the labels on EVERYTHING - products marked as "healthy heart" usually have high sodium. Also, some products change ingredients from time to time so something you thought was safe can be too high. I also learned the hard way that even fresh products, like raw chicken, can have salt water injected, so you have to read even those items. You can google low salt or low sodium recipes and find alot of good sites for low sodium products and recipes. Good luck! It takes some time to get started but once you do it's not so hard. Also your taste buds will adjust (tell your friend to hang in there) and soon he will be happy to eat foods w/less sodium.

One other thing - eating out is brutal - most foods in America are heavily salted. I go to the websites for restaurants whenever available and look up nutritional info. Then I write down one or two choices from the restaurants I most likely might visit and keep it in my purse. Then when I unexpectedly end up in a restaurant I can eat something that is healthy - low calorie/low sodium and not make a big deal of it in front anyone else.

Like, I was never hungry enough to eat a WHOLE meal, but I was constantly having 100 to 200 calorie mini meals all day, it seemed. For example, a bowl of oatmeal, half a sandwich with no cheese and just two thin slices of sandwich meat (we only had 4 slices left and my toddler wanted a sandwich too!! LOL) ummm, a bowl of healthy choice soup, broccoli and cheese, Special K with strawberries, raisins, etc etc..... It was real food, not junk food, but just little bits at a time. It actually feels good at the end of the day, because I feel like I've eaten less "junk food" than I usually do when I try to eat full, balanced meals with just a snack or two in between. My question is: Is it ok to eat like that? Am I doing any harm to my metabolism by eating this way? I've kept track of my calories, and I'm still under my 1400 limit, which is good because I'm thinking of having some mandarin oranges here in a little bit! LOL So I'm not over eating or anything, and I think I've included all my food groups. Just wondering if this is going to have any effect on my metabolism, or if now I've destined myself to eat all day every day :)

Fruits/Veggies

I am confused about the fruits/veggies recommendation. My diet plan says to replace at breakfast, combine meal and 200 cals at lunch, and have 500 cals at dinner, plus add in 3 120 cal snacks. Is the recommended 4 servings of fruits/veggies IN ADDITION to all of that, or should I incorporate them into the 200 cals at lunch, 500 cals at dinner, and 120 cal snacks?

food ?

do lolli pops count on the diet?
