Hi,

I just started slim-fast, and I'm starving and so hungry all the time!!  I have a Slim-Fast Optima shake in the morning around 8:30 a.m., and then I'll eat one of the snack bars at around 10:00 a.m.  I'll have a piece of fruit around 11:30 or so.  For lunch, I'll have another Optima shake at around 1:00 p.m., plus 1 cup of cottage cheese.  Then I'll have another snack bar and a piece of fruit around 3:00 p.m.  This sounds like a lot of food to me, but I've been so ravenous the past 3 days since I've started the slim-fast diet!  I've also been getting headaches too.  By the time dinner comes around, I'm so hungry that I'll eat anything!  I currently weigh 155 pounds and I'm trying to lose another 15 lbs. or so.  Has anyone else had the same problem?  Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Monica

i really believe wot u need is more willpower to break your old eatin habits.  u drink a shake at 830 am which is also supposed to control your appetite for 3-4 hours then u eat a snack bar not even 2 hours after your 1st shake THEN youre eatin again 1.5 hours later!

id space those meals out so u can train your body to get used to not eatin so frequently , girl u cant keep snackin like that.  trust me youll eventually get past the hunger at 1st but you gotta have willpower, or else...

Hi msandbergen,

I posted a reply to your post on the My First Six forum as well but just wanted to put it here too.

Cravings may develop from intense hunger, so don't skip meals (which it doesn't sound like you're doing).  Try to eat your meals at regular times and enjoy healthy snacks between meals. Having a snack 2-3 hours after each meal can help prevent hunger and overeating later in the day. Snacks that have protein and carbohydrates will help to keep you fuller for a longer period of time. For delicious and satisfying calorie-controlled snack suggestions, visit our website at:

If you are still hungry, fill up on plain, raw vegetables which are low in calories and high in fiber. Keep vegetables precut and handy, like baby carrots, cherry tomatoes and celery sticks. Also, drink 8- 8oz cups of water and calorie-free beverages like sugar-free tea, diet soda and flavored water, since sometimes we confuse hunger with thirst.  Other strategies to appease hunger are to suck on a hard candy, brush your teeth or chew sugar-free gum.

It's also important to consider how much your exercising. Too much or too little exercise can affect how you feel and impacts how many calories you should take in per day. For example, the Slim-Fast plan takes into account 30-60 minutes of moderate physical activity. If you are doing a lot more than 60 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week, you may need to increase your calorie intake. Feel free to give me a call at the Slim-Fast Weight Loss Center, 1-800-SLIMFAST(754-6327), if you want more help figuring out how to control your hunger.

Hi Msandbergen!  Hang in there...I know "exactly" how you feel. Try not to get frustrated and definitely don't quit! I "almost" quit, but thank goodness I didn't. I've lose another pound since then. I've lost 8 lbs total (in 3 mos), but the past month I haven't been exercising or trying hard. When I start back exercing I KNOW the lbs will come off. I was losing 1 lb a week when I exercised & tried!  I still have 20 lbs to go by Spring. I know we both CAN do it!! :)

Try the SF "meal" bars for brkfast and a sandwich for lunch, then eat the snack bar & fruit mid-afternoon. That's what I did! I HAD to eat a sandwich or salad....I was too hungry. Then I ate a sensible dinner and popcorn OR yogurt before bedtime. I've heard great things about the SF shakes, but maybe the "bars" are better for you!  I bought K20 (by Special K brand) to mix with bottled water. It's little packets of protein and I love the Strawberry Kiwi! Those seem to fill me up in between meals. Definitely try SF meal bars and see if that works better for you, like it did for me!  Good Luck!!  :) Leigh

Msandbergen, Forgot to say....I only felt hungry the first 2 weeks and then my body adjusted. Now I don't seem to "need" as much food. I get full a LOT quicker than I used to!  I did learn that exercise is KEY to this!  When I start back exercising I probably "could" lose 2 lbs a week, so I've gotta get motivated in that area. A friend of mine's nutritionist suggested having 1 "splurge" day a week, in order to "maintain" a diet for the long term. I definitely allow myself a splurge day on Saturdays, so I don't feel so deprived. The hunger will get a LOT better within 2 wks for you!  :) Leigh
