Im going to try getting back into running anyone else running? Also I'm going to try doing billy's bootcamp workouts.
Hey.... I've met a few people who are into running here on the 5K thread. I do it a LITTLE but I'm not race-material yet or anything lol I'm sort-of just getting started, as far as a committment to focus on getting better at it, as opposed to just doing it for exercise.
I'm the same it would take alot for me to be race maerial I get tired after five min. hopefully by christmas I can atleast run for 10-15 min straight without getting so winded out.
I tried to do this program called "Couch to 5K" but it wasn't really working for me. It started out just going 20 minutes or so.... and after a few weeks, I found that I could go faster for those 20 minutes, but it was hard for me to go any longer or further. I want to work up to 5K, but I was tiring out around 2 1/4 miles and even if I pushed myself, couldn't get further than 2 1/2 miles.
Anyway, I found this other program, which is the same concept but a little different. On this one, you start out going the etire 5K, or 3.1 miles, no matter HOW LONG it takes. You alternate walking and running until you've gone the etire distance. Supposedly, if you do these workouts 3 or 4 times per week, you will be ready for the next week. This is the breakdown:
Week 1: Walk 3 minutes / Run 1 minute
Week 2: Walk 3 minutes / Run 2 minutes
Week 3: Walk 2 minutes / Run 3 minutes
Week 4: Walk 2 minutes / Run 5 minutes
Week 5: Walk 2 minutes / Run 7 minutes
Week 6: Walk 2 minutes / Run 10 minutes
Week 7: Walk 1 minute / Run 14 minutes
Week 8: Walk 30 seconds / Run 18 minutes
*On week 8, if you don't HAVE to take the 30 second walking break, don't. :)
You can start this with me if you want; I just did it for the first time yesterday. It was REALLY easy to just run the 1 minute at a time, so hopefully building on that won't be hard. It took me just under 44 minutes to go the entire distance though, so it's definitely not a "short" workout :) Are you also interested in lifting weights? I do that a little when I get off the treadmill.
Looking forward to hearing from you :)

I forgot to say that where it says "run" I'm substituting "jog" for now. I'm going to work on the distance part of it first, and then once I can jog the entire distance, I'm going to do the entire program again jogging for the walk minutes and then REALLY running for the run minutes :) So it'll probably be summertime before I get a good time on the 5K but I don't mind taking it slow and steady, plus I don't want to hurt myself or over-work my heart before it's really ready for such a long run. (I know it isn't a LONG run to real runners, but for me, it's LONG lol )
I just read where you said that you had a baby a few weeks ago! Congratulations!! OMG I can't believe I suggested a running program though! You're probably still trying to figure out when you can sleep, much less when you can work out!! So sorry; didn't realize :)
Thank you! I can run most people don't even think I had a baby right after labor I was up and walking around. The baby is great he doesn't even act like a new born he sleep for 6-7 hours before waking up to be fed and changed. Yep I would like to try doing that with you hopefully I can do everyday and not skip.
Oh, ok great! I didn't mean to imply that you COULDNT do it, just that I would understand if you weren't ready. I'm glad you want to though! It will be great to have someone to chat with about it. I had to skip the gym today because my husband was "too tired" to watch the kids, but I am definitely going to go tomorrow! Talk to you then :)
p.s. My second was kind-of like that too; not much trouble at all. The first was a holy terror though, so I figured I deserved the break! Lol :)
So far I havn't done it just been lazy drinking tons of pop probably gained a few pounds. how are you doing so far?
Well, week 1 was easy for me, because I had been "flirting" with the treadmill for a while :) So I moved up to week 2, walking 3 minutes and running 2 minutes. I walked at 3.8 and "ran" at 5.5, and got finished with the whole 3.1 miles in 41 minutes even :) The first time I did week 1, I think I finished in about 44 1/2 minutes, so that was a lot better! It was a little tougher though, so I will probably do it for the full week before trying to move up. Try it when you get a chance and let me know how you do :)
Did it for a day got lazy and havn't done it since im going to try tonight hopefully i can stick to it like you are.
Oh, well, ACTUALLY I slacked off a LOT too! Thanksgiving week was hectic here and I didn't get to the gym at all, and I only went twice this week, so right now I'm in the process of getting back on track with it. I have a little sinus congestion though, and it's tough to really breath hard, cuz I'm afraid a nasty blob will fly out of my nose!! LOL So I'm just taking it a little slower til I get better. I still finished in under 40 minutes, but I alternated walking 2 minutes at 3.8 and running (jogging really) 2 minutes at 5.5 with no incline. Even though I'm not exactly where I want to be with it, I still feel better "trying" a little bit than I would giving up, you know? :)
Good luck! Keep me updated with where you are, and I'll try to do the same :)
