Rats!! I forgot to weigh this morning. I woke up to two missed calls from my mom who wanted to go shopping, and got another not long after from my mom in law, who wanted to take my 2 yr old shopping, so I had to get her up and ready.... long day =) I'm going to do it in the morning though; hopefully it will be good news! Congrats, Lee, and Misty, hope everything is going ok! Talk to y'all tomorrow.....
Well, I weighed myself this morning, and I'm at 157.5! That's a pound and a half since last week, so I'm happy with that! =) I'm going to try to get down to 155 by the end of September, and 145 or so by the end of October. I saw this super-cute costume that I really want to wear for Halloween, and it just won't be so cute if I still have a huge spare tire =)
Thanks for showing such concern for my father-in-law! He is doing much better, and has moved from ICU to a step-down unit. They still don't expect him to leave the hospital completely for another 3 weeks or so, but frankly I think those weeks in the hospital will do him some good. Hopefully they will be able to convince him that he needs to change his habits of eating to clog his arteries and smoking 2 packs a day..... He really needs to make some major changes to turn his health around, so please continue to pray for him with me.
We had dinner at my mother-in-law's last night. She had these HUGE plates set out for us to use, and she had enough food for three times as many people as she fed =) I had a small piece of roast with lots of carrots and just a few little pieces of potatoes, with some broccoli and a piece of corn on the cob, and when she saw my plate, she just kept going on and on and on about how I should try her wonderful made-from-scratch biscuits and macaroni and cheese =) I tried to explain to her that I normally would have loved to, but they're not so good for my diet; but I think I sort-of hurt her feelings. She did spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but.... I feel like I put enough on my plate that it shouldn't have offended her, and besides.... isn't it kind of rude to comment on what someone else has on their plate? (Sorry, had to let that little bit of frustration out) =)
Anyway, hope you guys are doing well. Chat with you later! =)
hey Shaina, hey lee,
sorry that i havent been on in a few days....i have been kinda under the monthly weather...ugh! So how are yall doing? Good i hope! I did manage to weigh in saturday and i had still lost 4 pounds even though im dealing with the lovelies of Aunt Flo....lol. I dont know that i am gonna be able to walk much this week though so i dont know that my weigh in report will be as good next saturday. well i am gonna go back a page so i can catch up on all i missed and then i can repost better....lol. Take care ladies:)Misty
CONGRATS Lee and Shaina on your weight loss! Yall are doing so great!! Pretty soon yall are gonna be skinny minnies...lol! I hope yall wont forget me and quit posting once yall reach your goal weights and im still chugging along here trying to get to mine...lol. Im just kidding. I hope that the weight just melts off for you both!!
I read back a page and yall were talking about potty training your little ones. With my girls i did it the unconventional way. I didnt push them to be potty trained by a certain age. My oldest daughter was ready by about 14-16 months and when she started showing me signs that she was ready we just eased into it and she took right off. Now with my second daughter, she was 2 before she was ready. I had tried at about a year and a half and she just didnt get it...lol. So i eased off her a bit and then when she was two she really wanted some cute big girls panties that she seen in wal mart and so she decided for herself that she wanted to be a big girl. She potty trained and gave up her sippee cup about the same time. She had a few more accidents then my oldest daughter did but she got it down eventually. So hang in there and they will get it. It just takes a watchful eye and plenty of patience on your part.
But anyway, i hope yall both have a great day and i will TTYL. :)Misty
Lately, when I've been asking if my daughter needs to use the potty, she says, "Weeeeeeell, I'm too busy!" =) So I've been bringing her little potty into the living room or bedroom or wherever she is playing, so when I make the suggestion, she doesn't have her excuse =) It has worked some, but she still has her moments when she tells me, "NO! I NOT use the POTTY!!" lol I guess she just wants to be in charge, and it is a pretty personal matter, so I'll let her do it her way. (for now. if she's still "training" at 3, we'll move on to doing it MY way!) =) She's going through a phase where she wants soooo many things done HER way. It's very irritating, but I'm trying to be flexible. No crust on the sandwiches, she has to brush her own teeth, she has to buckle the latch on her car seat, she has to wash her own hair, she has to put her own socks on no matter how looooong it takes.... etc. PLEASE tell me this will pass =) Every little thing now takes an average of 5-10 minutes longer.
Anyway, congratulations Misty! That's a lot of weight to lose in a week!! Did you do a little dance? =) And thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm not so sure I'm going to reach my goal weight anytime soon. Although, did I mention that I lost a few inches since the beginning of September? I lost 1.5 in from my waist, and I'm now a 34D! Yay!! =) That almost sounds like a sexy size!! lol I can't remember if I've lost any from my legs and arms. I probably lost a little, but they were never really the problem to begin with, so I'm not keeping track of those spots as well. They wrote it down at my gym though, so whenever I have them do my "official" measurements they'll be able to tell me =) I hope I can lose some more in my waist through October. I'm just going to come out with it: even with the inches I just lost, my waist is still 38.5 inches! And when you register a negative in the butt area and have a dwindling bra size.... that kind of number is scary!! =) I do NOT want to be all belly. But, the fat's just going to have to burn off where it may.... Do either of you know of any exercises that specifically target the mid section? Sit-ups are building the muscle underneath, but doing NOTHING for the chub =) I told my husband I was going to start looking for a belly dancing workout video.... He kinda liked that idea =) Not sure I would ever allow anyone over the age of 4 to witness me doing that though =) lol
Well, I hope y'all are doing well today. Good to hear from you Misty!! I've been missing your sense of humor! Take care ladies, and I'll talk to ya later!
hey shaina,
well my 5 year old is still MIss Independant so i cant say wether or not they grow out of it....lol. I hope so though. She is such a little prissy butt....lol. But i cant imagine her any other way...lol.
Wow i would kill for a 38 inch waist....lol. How tall are you? Cause i am 5' 7" and my waist is at 44" as best as i can tell. I have a hard time knowing exactly where to measure. My goal is to get to like a 37.5 inch waist that is about a size 8. I started with a 49" waist. I do reverse crunches for my lower belly. It is where you raise your legs off the floor instead of your head and i can really tell a difference. And you can feel it pulling your muscles in your lower abs. I really like that because i have had 2 surgeries..on a c-section and one on my upper abdomen ...and i can feel it in those areas. i also do regular crunches for my upper abs but i prefer the reverse. So i have lost a total of 14 pounds in a months time. not too shabby i think. No i havent done my victory dance yet...saving that for when i get under the 200 mark. Right now i am just wishing i would hurry up and get rid of this double chin. It is getting smaller but it isnt gone yet. Did you have that problem? If so, how many pounds did you have to lose before it left!? TTYL:)Misty
Hi Misty & Shaina, You 2 crack me up! Apparently when God gave out boobs, I was standing in line behind you both...LOL! :) And Shaina, I have enough booty for you and me both! LOL! I haven't lost ANY back there yet. My waist started out at 38 and is now 37.5. I guess size 8 must be 33 in, bc I'm a LONG way from being there...I can't fit into my 12's. :(
Thank you both for motivating me about walking. I'm going 6 days a week! Mostly in the mornings, but a few evenings, too. The weather here is now 85, instead of 95...I'm loving that!! We bought a boom box and are playing Wiggles on our walks. Dumb me, thought that would make her not ask when we were going home....nope! But it's passing the time better for me, so I love it. :)
Shaina, what worked for my lil girl on potty training is this: Mine realizes that next Aug she starts preschool and has to be potty trained to go there. That's all it took! She is very excited about school, bc her cousin is already in school and talks about it. But also she LOVES her new big girl panties! My MIL says it's a process.....one day will simply "click". Hang in there!
Both of your girls sound like mine....very independent and a prissy butt! I guess the independence thing is good, bc when they are much older they can take care of themselves....defend themselves at school or in the workplace. :)
Misty, it's really nice having you back! I missed your sense of humor, too! I'm only losing 1 lb a week and you are losing like crazy! 14 lbs!!! How I would LOVE to be able to say that! YAY, to both of you!!! We're going to be 3 HOT TAMALES, when we get done!! Our men won't know what got hold of them, huh?!!! I'm already looking forward to NEXT summer, buying a size 10 swimsuit and going to the beach! Now that will really make me do a Victory Dance....YEAH BABY!! I can hardly wait until the wedding and my Bday next spring! Chat with you both later on! :) Leigh
PS: P-Training is going MUCH better than I expected, but it's cuz I waited til she was in Kindergarten to start....LOL! Just Joking! :) :)
I'm not very tall at all (5'5) but I have a long(ish) torso and sort-of short legs. (Noone's ever said "Look at those legs!" in reference to me! But on the bright side, I can wear sort-of short skirts and get away with it, cuz I'm not showing off a mile of legs.... so it balances out =) ) I don't really know where I'm "supposed" to measure my waist =) At the gym, they did the biggest part and the smallest part. The smallest part of my mid-section is right under my rib cage, and the biggest part is right around where my belly button is (that's my spare tire I lovingly refer to so often) =) The 38.5 inches is where it's biggest at, but since I've been doing all this running, my hips have gotten really small (well, y'know, small for me). And since most of the jeans that are targeted to my age group are pretty low-rise, or at best mid-rise, I wear my jeans closer to my hips than my actual waist, so I think that's why I'm fitting into 12s or maybe even 10s by now but still have a pretty big belly. Sometimes I feel like I'm so funny looking naked =) But, this too shall pass, I think. I hope =)
Misty, I definitely had a double chin when I started. I think my face was one of the fattest parts of me! It was completely round with a big chunk of junk right under my chin. =) I couldn't identify an exact number of pounds it took to lose it; I'm not even sure it's completely gone now, but it's not really as noticeable; I have to look for it to find it now =) You know, raise my head up and feel around for the little line where there's still a little pocket of fat =) hahaha.... I've noticed that it doesn't look totally gross when I smile in pictures now, though, so it's gotten tons better. Yours will too.... just keep at it, and one day you'll be like, "Hey, where'd my other chin go?" =)
Just wondering.... Do y'all ever get so busy that you do something totally dumb? I lost my keys, and looked all over the house for them for two days. Couldn't find them anywhere. I was using my husband's keys to go everywhere. Yesterday, I brought in a purse that had been in the backseat of the car for a while and put it in my room. Well, I went back there last night and saw my husband going through it with a flashlight =) (It's really big!) And I was sort-of offended, and I was like "What are you doing?!" Then he grins and pulls out my keys, and says, "Bet you feel dumb, huh?" =) I really had no friggin idea they were in there; actually, they had been in the car the whole time. He put up one of those organizer things with little hooks for me, so I can keep important stuff together and have a place to hang my keys. Anyway, that was my "Duh!" moment for this week =) And it's only Tuesday, so there may be more coming =)
Man, I worked out extra hard last night. One of the trainers last week challenged me to add an extra 10-20 pounds to all the machines I use for a few days to see if my muscles responded by burning more fat (he said they definitely would) and man, I'm sore! =) It's a good sore though, like every time something hurts, it reminds of me of how hard I worked and makes me smile instead of wince. I hope his idea works for me though, because I told him I don't want to have muscles like a man! My husband's a skinny guy, and I'd feel weird if I had bigger muscles than him =)
And that reminds me of one other thing that occurred to me this weekend. My husband is always eating.... Like, breakfast at 6:30, PB&J sandwich at 9:30, lunch at 12:30, snack when he gets home from work, dinner around 5:30 or 6, and always has some kind of TV dinner or ramen noodles or something right before bed, and he's super skinny! I always just thought he was a freak of nature or something, but then I thought maybe eating all those meals every day has increased his metabolism. I wondered if I should start eating every three or four hours, if maybe it would work like that for me. (I know SF recommends it, but I have to admit I thought eating so often would keep me from losing weight, so I haven't been really doing it.) Just a thought. How often do you guys eat? I think I'm going to try eating something every few hours, even if it's just sharing a yogurt with my kids or something.....
Anyway.... I better go. Have a great day! ~Shaina
Hey Lee!! Missed ya woman! You know i cracked up over the boob line....my older sister says the exact same thing....lol. She is tiny..like a 32 A. She can actually get away with wearing the training bras...lol. She is always saying how she would like to get a boob job...lol. I tell her all the time that i would gladly give her over half of mine if they could figure out how to transplant them...lol!
And as far as a butt goes, i dont have much of one of those. But i dont really mind to much. Oh and i was wrong, in one of my catalogs the reference sizes for a size 8 was 35.5 x 27.5 x 37.5 (boobs x waist x hips). Im beginning to think that it might take a miracle for me to get down that small in my waist though. My waist is definatly my problem area. That is where all my fat seems to go....and my boobs. But hopefully i will get there eventually. Congrats on your walking!!! That is wonderful! Im still walking up a storm....i love it. I hate to admit it, but i suffere with ADHD and have since i was a small child, so walking is perfect for me cause i am moving my body yet my brain can slow down and focus more clearly. It is a great prayer time for me.
Yeah i think we will be hot to trot once we get where we want to be...lol! My hubby keeps promising to take me shopping when i reach my goal. So that is a definate motivator for me. Well i will talk to you later. :)Misty
Hi Ladies! I got on the scales and have gained 1 lb. OH NO!!! I went CRAZY yesterday with my snacks. I'm going to have to do "good" this w-end and count yesterday as my "splurge" day. I ate 3 servings of rice cakes (the tiny ones) 3 100-cal snack packs, popcorn, and a rice krispy treat. I know that's why I gained. UUGGHH!
Misty, Oh Lordy....I can't believe size 8 is 27.5 inches. I'm pretty sure this chickadee won't ever have a 27 or 28 inch waist again. I probably had that 10 years ago. I definitely need to shoot for size 10 and keep praying I can GET there! My hip measurements are 42.5....YIKES!! :( And it is NOT pretty!
Shaina, I can't wear the short skirts, so YOU GO GIRL! My legs are very long, probably 32" inseam. Plus I'm too old to wear them anyway. AAhhh, to be 26 again....enjoy every year!! I really enjoyed mine....I got married late and went on LOTS of beach trips with my 3 best friends! :) :)
Do you girls ever buy gently-used kids clothing at consignment shops? I buy some, but still buy clothes at Target, Carter's, etc. We have this AWESOME consignment shop with name brand things. Got a cute top & skirt for her today there. Hubby says I buy too much PINK for her! :) My favorite color!
One more thing, have you girls had pedicures? We should definitely treat ourselves to pedicures or massages after we reach our weight goals. I'm definitely getting a pedicure....I only get 2 per year and they are sooooo RELAXING. :) We should get new clothes and pedicures!!! How does that sound??? Let's KEEP LOSING! :) Leigh
PS: Misty, I have never been diagnosed with ADHD and I'm not hyper unless I'm real excited over something....then I talk a mile a minute. LOL! But I could have the AD part. Sometimes my mind "wanders" and it's a little hard for me to focus. I know what you mean, bc in school I would get bored and my mind would wander off during classes.
Shaina: I eat every 3-4 hrs. Otherwise I tend to "overeat" at my next meal. Normally I eat 3 meals and 3 low-fat snacks. What Halloween costume did you pick out the other day for yourself? I dressed up as Cleopatra many years ago. I have always liked Halloween, too. I'm a kid-at-heart and always will be. My Dad is the same way....he is 70 but acts 60! (Maybe that's where I get it from) I married a man that is 5 yrs younger than me, so it works out well! He says i sometimes act 16 though....that's bc I LOVE theme parks and rides. :)LOL!! Leigh
Have a WONDERFUL DAY and keep up the GREAT WORK! :)
Hmmmm...a pedicure? i have never had one...lol. But it sounds like a good idea to me...lol. But i love massages! i have had a couple in my lifetime and they were soooo nice!!!
Oh my gosh, i LOVE halloween. We bought our girls costumes last weekend. My youngest is gonna be a fairy and my oldest got this cute Alice in WOnderland costume...with the balck and white checked tights and everything. She looks like a mischeivious Alice...lol. I have never had the opportunity to dress up for halloween ...like for a party or anything. But i would love to. Of course my hubby says that I dont need Halloween to dress up like a goth...lol. I have waist length black hair and bright green eyes and everyonce in a while i get in one of my goth moods...LOL! He says im a witch at heart...LOLOLOL!! But the older i get the fewer that mood strikes me...lol.
Go Lee with your young man...LOL!!! WOO HOO! LOL! Just kidding. My 1st hubby was my age and he was a blooming idiot, so i vowed the second time around that i was marrying me and old man!! You know more stable...lol. HA! My hubby is 15 years older than me and he is a dang gypsy! LOL! Oh well, it takes a weird man to put up with me so i guess i did pretty well....lol. Well i better check on my dinner. TTYL:)Misty
Hey Misty! The goth thing was funny....girl you gotta dress up like a witch sometime and go trick-or-treating with your girls. LOL! You could be a fortune teller, too. ha!ha! I went to a few Halloween parties in college. The cleopatra costume was a "rental" and it was SO convincing (wig and beaded hair piece) that the guy I was dating didn't recognize me at all....until I talked! ha!ha! It was GREAT seeing him wonder who that was. You could have a Halloween party and invite your friends & neighbors....everyone come in costume. If not in the mountains, then when you move to the city. :) There's a couple in my parents neighborhood that are in their 40's and dress up every year. She dresses like a witch to give out candy. :)
I love the thought of a massage!! I've only had one of those! Maybe I'll plan on that for my 30 lb goal and get the pedicure for 20 lb goal. LOVE that idea! My mom had her 1st pedicure at 58...we had it done "together" while I was pregnant.
HELP!! I'm wondering like Shaina said previously....WHAT will get this big 'ole belly off me?? I guess I need to either walk twice a day or do those crunches y'all mentioned. I'm not losing there at all! It's frustrating! Y'all let me know if there is anything other than crunches that you find out about. (I hate crunches but I also hate this belly!) LOL! Shaina, I know you talk with the fitness trainers, so let me know if they say anything. That's the first place I gain, so it will probably be the last to come off. MAN! Better go for now! :) TTYL! :) Leigh
Hey y'all!! Misty, I LOVE long hair! I always try to grow mine out, but it's super thick and curly so I usually get sick of it about an inch past my shoulders and cut it off. =) I can't have it short, cuz it gets frizzy, and I can't stand all the tangles and having to use a bottle of conditioner every time I shower when its' long, so I'm stuck at medium-length =)
The costume I picked out is a sexy Nascar girl type outfit. They also have a really cute nurse outift, and I thought it would be cute if my husband goes as a doctor.... But those outfits are sort-of tight, and I'm afraid of how a tight top and skirt will look on me with my skinny legs and big belly =) Leigh, that Cleopatra outfit sounds GREAT!! =) I bet it was so fun, really looking like someone else =) I haven't picked out my girls' costumes yet; the oldest can't make up her mind what she wants to be, and you know she has to be in charge. One day she says she'll be Pooh Bear and her sister can be Tigger, then the next day she wants to be princess Jasmine and her sister to be Sleeping Beauty =) Then she wants to be a ladybug and the baby a bumblebee =) All cute ideas..... but DANG, pick one already! =) We are going to buy them this weekend though, so whatever she decides on Friday is what she's going to be stuck with. She was a princess last year, and she had a beautiful dress with the pointy little hat thing with the pink streamer that hung down.... but she refused to wear it, and even threw a fit about the dress. =) Hope she picks something she likes this year!
Oh, and I know what you mean about the pink! My husband has been complaining about everything being pink from day one, it seems =) I swear, I've bought almost every cute blue or green little girl outfit in existence, but they still have way more pink stuff =) He won't buy pink anymore. He says he wants them to wear "big girl clothes" and buys jeans and different little tops, but never anything pink or with flowers =) I haven't bought anything used for the girls, but I would if I found something cute in good condition. There's only one good consignment shop in my town (with nice clothes), and I've actually bought some of the same outfits they have brand new for about the same price they want. They're crazy! =) We buy a lot of stuff at Old Navy, but less lately as I haven't seen much I liked the past few months. I love Target! They have that one brand made by OshKosh.... can't remember what it is, but those clothes are super-cute, and not too expensive. I absolutely hate paying $50 for an outfit at the mall that MAY get worn five times, and will PROBABLY be worn three times before it gets an unremovable stain on it =) I'd rather buy stuff at Target and not feel like crying when it gets ruined =) ~Does that make me cheap?~ lol
I've never had a professional massage before. I bet it's soooo relaxing. Have y'all ever heard of Hot Springs? It's a really nice little town here in Arkansas, and they have this historic area called bathhouse row, where they have actual bath houses, mostly restored from way back in the old days, and you take mineral baths and stuff in actual hot springs from the ground. My mom went to one for her birthday last month and had a long massage.... said it was WONDERFUL. (And she made sure to tell me she didn't feel fat when she took her clothes off because most of the ladies who worked there were pretty hefty. Bonus!) =) She said she's going to take me sometime.... hopefully soon! We went up there a few times this summer to take the kids to an amusement park they have called Magic Springs, but I never got to do anything by myself..... (do I sound like a travel guide? not meaning to, but it really is a nice little town.... y'all should check it out if you ever get the chance.) I haven't had a pedicure in YEARS! I absolutely love them though! I used to always get my nails and toes done and have my eyebrows waxed.... but since the kids I just do it myself. (cutting some extra costs was part of the deal I had to make to be able to stay home with the kids) =( I miss my little extras sometimes though.
Oh, and Leigh, I did ask about there being anything special for the mid-section. As it turns out.... it's a total myth that you can spot-lose fat. Anyone who tries to sell you a product that claims to give you six pack abs is lying =( He said you COULD have six-pack abs, but you won't see them til you burn the fat off, and the best way to do that is (we already know): 1. take in less calories than you burn (have a deficit of around 500 cals per day) 2. do strengthening exercises, especially for your core, because muscle tissue burns calories, fat tissue stores them so the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn and 3. do aerobic activity for at least 30 minutes a day to burn fat.... can I get a big "No duh!?" =) All we can do is keep on keeping on, and those lovehandles will eventually be used as energy in a kick-butt workout =) I wish I could tell you something different (I wish he had told ME something different!) lol but the truth is besides liposuction, all you can do is burn calories, and the body will use it's fat stores as it needs them for energy. Oh, and this is super nasty but you may already know it.... it's obvious when your body stores fat under the skin (subcutaneous) but did you know it stores it around your organs, too? It's called visceral fat (not sure I spelled that right) and it's really bad for you and it's what you get from sitting around eating junk food with saturated fats. You could gain like 8% visceral fat and only gain 1% in body weight; so basically you could add a lot of fat without really even knowing it. SO maybe we are also burning lots of fat we don't even know about! =) That's the good news. I think it takes some kind of CT scan to identify how much visceral fat you have, so I won't be doing that, but it's a good thought to know when you're exercising that you're making your whole body healthier, and not in a figurative shadowy sense, but something you could actually monitor with a simple CT scan =) ~wow, that was a run-on sentence!~
I was in Wal Mart in the sporting goods section with my husband last night (Arkansas + deer season = trip to sporting goods) lol and I found this exercise kit for your core that comes with a boxing bag, boxing gloves, a jump rope, and.... whatever else, I can't remember. =) I think it's what I want for Christmas though. I just figure, you never see a fat boxer. They never have a chunky mid-section, right? Maybe, since that's something I could do alone and not have to really figure out, I could strengthen my core and hopefully get down to maybe a bike-sized spare tire =) I mean, all you do is hit and kick the bag, and jump the rope, right? lol I'm sure it's tough exercise, but it doesn't take any real sports-savvy to be able to do it. The more I think about it, the more I think it may be the perfect thing.... if I get it, I'll let ya know how it works out =)
Crap, my posts are long! =) But the kids are still asleep and I'm bored. Oh well, guess I better get some stuff done.... If you got this far in the post, thanks for reading it =) I hope it made sense, cuz I just typed it out kinda fast..... Anyway, I'll talk to you ladies later!!
~Shaina
