  • Hi, I am not in the age range that you prefer but what does age have to do with having someone support your goals?  I lost my job two years ago and was so depressed that I literally refused to come out of my bedroom.  All I would do was just cry and feel sorry for myself.  I isolated myself from family and friends and I just wanted to die.  I'm sad to say that it took me so long to wake the hell up and then after gaining 80+ pounds. Couldn't I have woke up a little sooner?  At least 40 pounds ago? LOL

When the fog cleared.  I accepted that I may not have any control over my employment situation but I do have control over my weight.  I can control what I put in my mouth and I can control my fat azz getting out of bed and moving around.  So, last Thursday I went to my local YMCA.  I told myself all the way there that I would start slow.  I would do what I could just for this day and take it one day at a time after that.  I got on the treadmill first and I just started walking.  The timer popped on by itself and it said 30 minutes.  I kind of laughed and said to myself, "we'll see".

After about fifteen minutes, I thought I was gonna die.  I was sweating like a pig and my legs felt like rubber.  So I made a quick mental note, go for twelve minutes tomorrow.  Then I got on the bike and I road it for fifteen minutes also.  I sat there for a few minutes to make sure my legs were still attached then I got up, got my stuff out of the locker and came home.  I took a long shower and fell asleep.  I was exhausted but in a good way.  For the first time in a long time, I felt like I accomplished something.  It may have only been thirty minutes but it was more than I had done in two years and guess what?  I went back Friday and Saturday and today.  Yes, it's still thirty minutes and I am so sore, I think if a fly landed anywhere on my body, I would scream.

I am going back again tomorrow, my anthem is, "do what you can do".  I am taking it one day at a time and I am not getting on that scale anytime soon if I can help it.

As far as my diet goes, I am drinking slim fast twice a day and doing like Jarred, having a sandwich from SubWay.  I have to figure out what foods to eat but I refuse to stress myself out about what I should and shouldn't eat.  So far it's no fried foods and no no starches,  which is a killer because I love rice and potatoes.  I don't have a time line of how soon I want to be in a certain size, I just want to be able to start pulling clothes out of my closet and put them on and they fit.  I have sizes ranging from 11 to 26.

I would love to be your support buddy, if you don't mind a slightly older chunky butt  to correspond with.  Hope to talk to you soon.

  • Hello and Welcome lmk1,

There should be plenty of buddies in your age bracket, but don't rule out us older buddies as well. Lots of useful advice and hints to be had from all of us.

Well best of luck to you and Welcome again.

    Tim

play.10Hi, I am the Un-official Door Greeter here at this Slim Fast site... So Hello and Welcome! Trying to let the Mini-Me out
  • I've been sedintary for a year and have gained 30 pounds.  I need to loose 100 to be at a healthy, ideal weight.  It's going to be a long process; but I know I can do this.  I'm looking for someone to help support my progress (and set backs) and I am more than willing to support theirs. I'm in my late 20's and I would like someone close to my age: 25-35.
