  • Thanks..  I called and talked to my doctor today, and he said i can do slimfast as long as i keep my calories at 2200..

    Thank you for your support!!

  • Hi there…You have a beautiful daughter and I’m glad to hear she is doing better. I can’t imagine how hard it is to take care of a family and a sick child at the same time.

I know that Slim Fast discourages nursing mother from going on the plan, I’m not sure if it’s because it changes the quality of your milk or the supply, but that being said: I’m a nursing mom and started on the SF plan about 2 weeks ago (2 weeks on Wednesday). I personally haven’t noticed a difference. I find that if I drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after I nurse I’m fine. I think the biggest problem with supply comes when you cut down calories to low. I try to stay between 1600 and 1900 per day.

My son is slightly older than your daughter, he turned 1 last week.  I didn’t start the plan earlier because I didn’t want to compromise my milk supply or its quality. Now that he is older it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I lost my milk, he is now eating a little of everything. Plus even though I’m a stay at home mom, I started pumping like crazy when he was about 5 or 6 months because I wanted to get serious about losing weight and not feel guilty. He has a good supply of milk that will probably last him about another six months if I were to cut him off now.

I don’t know if this helps you any, but you do have a huge decision in your hands, especially because your daughter really depends on this. How is your supply now? Is it too late for you to start pumping? If you have any questions or need to talk go ahead and send me a message or respond here. Also you might want to try asking one of the SF dietitians, I believe they have a message board on this site.

Sorry this is so long, I get carried away sometimes. So to answer your question; my milk supply hasn’t been affected, I still have plenty of milk enough to pump if I needed to. And it hasn’t affected my baby either, my son had his doctor checkup today and he is very healthy.

  • Hey you all.. my daughter is nine months old and has survived a birth defect that left me needing to nurse her for at least another six months..  (she was born with a diaphragmatic hernia.. her diaphram didn't form while I was preggo so all of her digestive organs went into her chest cavity..  she only has one working lung..  she has four surgeries to correct this and is doing well.. her digestive system is funny and she is on *** milk only..)

    Ok...

so my question is, is it safe for my milk suppy to do the slim fast diet while nursing??  has it effected anyone elses milk supply or baby?

I weighted 110 pounds before my children and I weight 181 now.. I really want to loose some weight...
