  • Betty and Dee Dee...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!  Clap your hands:9744 You guys are doing awesome!!!!!  Both have given me renewed and refreshed hope that being stuck at 154 will not last forever!  I'm so very proud of you both!!!!  Way to Go!!!!

Never tried a Zumba exercise...sounds challenging and fun!  But...have recently begun working out using the Wii Fit...wowie!!!  I can really tell a difference!  Scales don't agree...but my clothes are for sure telling the story!  Yay!

    Hugs to all!!!!!  Cindi

  • Hey Gwyn!  I've read the same thing...but have always had the fear that I would either get lost in keeping up with what I've eaten -vs- what I've burned off for calories to consider how much I can still eat...or there is the fear that my body may not respond well to the actual eating of the additional calories that my body burned during a workout.  So, I am not real sure on the advice for you on this one.  I think that this may be a great question for the SF diet panel.

On another note...I can fully understand what you mean about the spur of the moment things...my husband decided that he was going to cook our Easter dinner early...then decided we would just eat some of it yesterday....and I thought...WHAT?  Are you serious??  But, I did good...only had a very small portion and was actually glad.  I was dreading eating different food than what is in my normal food consumption and now, I feel like since I ate it yesterday...everyone can eat what they want for Easter dinner and I can eat a safe meal!

It's the weekend...Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!!  Hugs to all!!!  Cindi

  • Hi All. Today I had a good weigh in (see the Aloha Group weigh in thread), so I’m a happy camper tonight.

Patty, it has been cold in Hawaii. But, if you bring a sweatshirt you should be fine. And a light sweater for evening wear, such as walking around or going to dinner. You could probably wear those items onto the plane, “layer” your clothes, and not even take up room in your luggage. Just pack like you are vacationing in a warm climate, bring along a sweatshirt and a light sweater, and you will be ready for anything. Unless you are an avid hiker or hunter …. then you’ll need different options due to the rain. Hope this helps you.

Teri, have you tried soy milk? There are some decent flavors, and I use soy milk in my recipes instead of real milk. 1 cup has 100 calories. Saturated fat only 0.5g (3%), Trans fat 0g, Cholesterol 0mg, carbohydrates 9g, protein 7g, and sugars 7g. Costco sells it cheaper than stores under their Kirkland brand (organic vanilla soymilk). Do you have Costco in Maine? I try to keep some stored as part of my earthquake/hurricane supplies, since it does not have to be refrigerated.

Gwyn, ask the SF dietitian about the need to replace burned calories. I’ve read the same thing about if you have too few calories it can be counter-productive, but there is probably a fine line between replenishing calories and “over eating” while dieting.  I’m trying to not obsess (which I can do!) on calorie counting, but instead I’ve got my list of things that are safe to eat and try to stick with those for snacks and when hunger hits. Air popped popcorn. Sugar free fudge bars. Hard boiled eggs. Fruit. Salad with Spritzer dressing. I can eat about as much as I want of those (well, within reason!) and still be within a decent calorie intake. It is great that you are taking control of your food, good work! It is the path to weight loss, yes?!

Hey, anyone familiar with Zumba exercise? It is a dance aerobic workout. Have you taken it in a class setting? Was it fun?  Ok, everyone, have a grand Saturday.

  • I have a similar story as Teri, I was just going into Walmart Thursday Afternoon planning to only buy breakfast foods for Fri, Sat, and Sun.  Welll, ,my hubby tells me that he invited his parents to come at Easter dinner Sunday.  He told me he wanted Turkey and Dressing.  I had no shopping list and had to make one up on te fly without knowing what seasonings I needed or already had.  And to top it all off,I only had
$65 to spend (Cash in pocket, not checkbook)  hehe.  I did ok.  Hate those spur of the moment plans made without me.  lol

I was reading on another website that if I increase my exercise  calories that I burn should be replaced.  for example, If I am trying to only eat 1200 calories a day, and I exercise 654 calories, That leaves me with stil 750 or so calories I should eat.  If I dont, they said my body will go into starvation mode and I will lower my metabolism and therefore not loose weight.

As I am new to this Calorie counting, I dont know if I should trust this or not.  Opinions are needed and wanted.  Please ....

Confused as to what to do. . .

  • Good afternoon everyone!  I didn't weigh this morning because of being at my boyfriend's but will weigh tomorrow.  I am not sure if I have lost any thing this week but, hopefully I have.  Any ways today is pretty crazy for me because I got a call saying we are having a family dinner at my niece's house and I am to make the rolls.  Not a problem but, didnt' know about it until about 8 am.  So my boyfriend and I couldn't do what we wanted to do together so I won't see him until sometime tomorrow he is coming up here for Easter dinner.  I bought my ham and all the fixings.  I am trying  a new milk instead of 1 percent or 1 and half percent I am trying simply smart milk it only has 90 calories.  It has no saturated fat or transfat and only 5mg of cholestrol and total carbohydrate is 13g. Protein is 10g and sugars are 12g  I am not sure if it will help me lose weight but, I am trying everything.  I have tasted it and its not bad with my powder shake so I guess it passes the taste test.  The regular milk I was drinking was 110 calories so it should take off some from my shake.  Well, have a good day and talk with you all later!  Teri

  • Good Morning Ladies!  I send you all my wishes for a wonderful and Blessed Easter weekend!!!  May you all enjoy time with family and friends while remembering the death and resurrection of our Lord!  And...remember to push away from the table and hold up that hand and 'just say NO' to anything that may be tempting!

Thank you so much for your kind words Patty...I am honored.  I'm glad that you are encouraged...just as I am by reading of everyone's words!  Also, thanks for the site!  I cannot wait to go and check it out!

Betty...yup...we're still the same...but Praise God those 3 pounds came back off!  And Gwyn...you go girl...and I'm with ya on the loose clothes...my scales don't much like me either...but the clothes have definite become looser!

Dee Dee...I saw your post and comment regarding the reminder of peace.  I agree that loosing weight is stressful enough but I am so thankful for your words to remind us to come and be at peace!  Thanks girl!

Hugs and love to all!!!   Cindi

  • Thanks Cindi for starting the Friday weigh in thread for this week, "Aloha Group - April 10 Weigh In". Everyone, post your week's progress there, then come back here to write the usual chatting that we do throughout the week.

Also, don't forget to review the last postings to the previous Aloha Group thread (#4). I'm closing that one and starting this new one, because once a thread gets too long it is difficult to search the old pages.

So, post your Friday weight in "Aloha Group - April 10 Weigh In".  and your other stuff here "Aloha Group (#5 April 10)"
