  • Hi Corin,

I have lost 100lbs over the past 4 years and I know, for me personally, I can't say no to those things forever.  I have to give myself a break or I won't be able to succeed.  I allow myself one day a week to eat whatever I want and I feel like it is one of the only things that gets me through for a couple of reasons:

1.) Think about how crappy you felt about eating the donut, pizza bites, pretzels, and a burrito.  That is how I feel after a day of eating and its a weekly reminder that eating healthy makes me feel so much more energized than those fat-filled foods that upset my stomach.

2.) By allowing myself one day I week to eat whatever, my body does not get used to the diet and a plateau less often.

I hope this is a little encouraging to you.

  • I know this all too well.  It does happen to all of us, everyone is right.  The feeling after bingeing is the worst.   Ashamed is a good word for how I feel afterwards, mostly because I let myself lose control of myself.  Someone on this site said to write down what's going on when I feel like I'm going to binge ("what are you really hungry for"), because I emotionally eat.  The little alert in my head even goes off when I'm about to binge that says "don't do it, write it down," but the want to binge is so much stronger than the alert and takes me over.  I'm really trying to work on it though.  I am doing some meditation CDs, or I find other ways to clear my head (crossword puzzles, or reading).  We all understand.  This site is a great place for support, and I would have given up weeks ago if it weren't for everyone here.  Stay in touch, there is strength in numbers, and we're all here to help.

  • What I would do to avoid this is throw everything away that tempts you, that isn't part of your meal/snack plan.  We have a local animal park with deer and geese and other animals, its fun to take snacks to feed them.  If the food that you were tempted to eat was for other people, make them eat with you, HEALTHY!  It will help everyone out in the long run.  I don't know if you have kids or not but I wish my mom would have never bought junk food, and forced us to eat healthy.  I just ate unhealthy with her, now here I am almost 23 years old weighing 248 lbs, and my mom qualified for gastric bypass so she's living the skinny life now.  Chug a glass of water when you are tempted to have a bite of junk, it will fill you up and help you feel better.

hope this helped, talk to me anytime

  • It does happen to all of us. I have been eating healthy for almost a year and have lost a considerable amount of weight and I recently have developed a problem where every few days I kinda binge, usually on healthy foods, but it makes me feel so horrible. Not only about myself, but physically. It amazes me that I used to eat a lot more than that and a lot worse every day and could feel ok after! I used to be a major fast-food-junky. Just tell yourself that tomorrow is another day to do better. And it isn't the end of the world.

  • Oh, I think that happens to all of us and we just learn from it and start over eating healthy...my downfall is chocolate!  Anyway, the best thing for me to do is have a nice lite yogurt and some fruit, drink a tall glass of water and paint my nails....by the time the polish is dry, I can walk up & down the steps for exercise a few times...therefore, a mini pick-me-up with the nails, a lite snack and some water plus a bit of exercise!!  By that time, I am really thinking hard on whether I want to binge or not... I am doing this for me and I am in control of what goes in my mouth...I do have my moments, but I am trying so hard to accomplish this new way of living...it is what is best for me.  I wish you all the luck in the world and the strength to reach your healthy weight.  Stay strong, you can do it!  Hugs, SisterC

  • I did too about 4 days in a row. I wrote out a recovery plan to get myself back in the swing of things. I have a daily food checklist that I'm sticking to so I can make up for it. One thing I did wrong is I knew not eating enough during the day would cause me to overeat at night, but I realized this week that I the same goes for not eating breakfast because I was pigging out for about 2 hours mid afternoon!

Oh well, we eat and learn, lol.

  • Hey Corin,

Im sorry, but I know how u feel.  I am unaware of your living situation, but perhaps you can try and shop a little different. I have Kids in my home so I have that type of junk around as well.. But beleive it or not, when I plan my whole meal down to the last snack, I am good to go.  When I am in a mood like the one you had last night, I will often eat a bowl of Special K.  Or make a PB & J sandwich, Fruit.  This way the cereal/or sandwich can appease both the sugar and or salt you may be craving...   Im sorry Stay strong and focused regardless to how many times you fall off the wagon..   Try Blo pops as well.. they are only 50 calories...
