  • I couldn't agree more.  My husband is a real junk food eater and I am not.  We have two large cabinets in the kitchen, one for him and one for me.  He doesn't go in my cabinet and I don't go in his.  I don't even open his to see what he got otherwise the temptation kicks in.  We have the same set up for the fridge and freezer, but it's shelves obviously, instead of cabinets.  If you don't have the means to split your food, labeling helps too.  My parents use this concept and it seems to work for them.

  • In my freezer I keep my lean entrees, portioned or sugar free ice cream on my own shelves. I highly recommend separating your low calorie and portioned items from your husband's in all areas where you store food. This way you have your own designated space where you can go to grab your food/snacks. Use discipline and be sure to stock up your areas good! This way you will have variety. By keeping it thoroughly stocked you won't find yourself reaching for food in his areas of the kitchen. It really helps. My husband said that by my weight loss and calorie intake since I've been dieting is showing him how high calories he eats and causes  him to second guess what he's eating at times. He's cut back on buying certain high calorie foods at the grocery store and when he hears me casually say, "Wow what you're eating has such and such amount of calories and I couldn't eat that", he realizes he's eating a days worth of calories in a single meal. I don't push it on him, he just sees my changes and hears my own experience and when I make comments, it's out of my own shock by imagining only being able to eat one meal if I was eating his food. When he sees my food journal laying out on the counter every day it also reminds him of watching calories. He doesn't read it, but he knows what it is. I've noticed him even looking at the food labels in the grocery store and asking me if it's bad. lol. He told me that as much as a spouse or significant other's diet affects the other, in the very same way, my dieting is affecting him as well, just in a positive way! I don't eat his junk food anymore and there's not much of it around our house lately either.

We can be the change and the example we want to see in our household, isn't that great? =) I have to give him credit for this post too because he was sitting here with me and explained his feelings about it. :)

  • Well then don't buy regular ice cream, try 100 cal ice cream bars from Klondike's Slim-a-bear or skinny cow ice cream snacks. Instead of potato chips buy things like reduced fat wheat thins. That way you don't feel guilty for cutting out yummy stuff completely but the temptation is for a more healthy snack.

  • Ok here is a question for you. The thing is i have no self motivation and my husband likes his share of junk food and i dont believe its fair to take the junk out just because of me.. What do i do to make it so he can eat what he wants and me to leave his stuff alone? we will go to the store and i will say" do you want some ice cream ?"and he says sure you will eat some too, and i will deny it at the spacific moment then sure as anything that night im in the freezer getting that bowl of ice cream. I just dont want to take away from him things he likes because i can handle my cravings..

  • Thanks for your advise i will try and eat more protein durring the day...Other than chicken, peanut butter or even peanuts, because those are things i eat already what other foods would be full of protein?

  • Sparkle had good advice.

Also if you can, try to get as much of that bad food out of your house... Then the temptation won't be as high, and you won't have as many bad choices there to be taunting you :)

  • I would be sure and eat a lot of protein during the day, keep a food journal and write down your calories and save some for after work. This should help keep you fulfilled and create more balance for you.

    Hope that helps! :)

  • Ok here is the problem. I work from mid afternoon until 11pm at night. I bring to work 3 snacks like pretezels, cereal bars and maybe some peanuts. When i get home i relax a bit and then find myself watching t.v then running to the kitchen and finding the worst possible things to eat. (example ice cream, chips, sandwiches, ect...ect...)  I do pretty well throughout the day its just night time. Any ideas on what i can do to stop this monster from runing me?
