Craving Control...

  • Hi,

I'm new too, and I have the exact same problem.  I think the best solution, which is not as easy as it sounds, is to find some alternative activity, or even several activities, which will relieve the boredom effectively.  Maybe you could make a list of activities which you enjoy which do not require a lot of preparation or cleanup like reading, playing solitaire, crossword puzzles, and hobbies that occupy your mind and your hands.  The reason they shouldn't require a lot of preparation or cleanup is that these factors could make the activity look less attractive and discourage you from getting involved in the activity instead of eating.  After all, scooping ice cream is not exactly tough work, especially if you eat right out of the container.  But if your alternate activity requires a lot of prep or cleanup, this makes it a less enjoyable alternative to eating ice cream.

This is something I'm still working on myself, which is why I say it's not as easy as it sounds.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

  • I'm an icecream fanatic as well. Try frozen yogurt. Ben and Jerry's make some delicious frozen yogurt flavors with half the calories. Simple switches such as regular icecream to frozen yogurt or coke to diet coke can actually make a big difference. If I get a craving at night I like to snack on the 100 Calorie packs. They have some great ones (oreos, fudge cookies, goldfish etc). That way you can still eat some of your favorite foods but keep track of your calorie intake at the same time. Hope this helps!

  • Not exactly an expert here, but this is where exercise and physical distraction come into play.  If you are bored and eat because of it, then you need to distract yourself.

Following the advice from others, if you are craving something, don't deny yourself that thing, but think portion control.  Can't really say what healthy snacks might relieve your cravings, but just be mindful of empty calories.

Keep yourself from overindulging by measuring out your snacks.

  • Hi Im new to this program. I have a problem with eating out of bordem and over indulging when I have chocalate or ice cream(butter pecan blue bell is my weakness). What advice could you give so I do not over indulge out of bordem. Or there any snacks that will satisfy these cravings?

    Thanks
