  • Glowgo,

Based on your current weight, I would actually recommend consuming about 1500 calories per day.  The Slim-Fast 3-2-1 Plan provides approximately 1200 calories per day.  To adjust the plan, I would recommend doubling all three of your allotted snacks.  This would mean that you would be able to have an extra snack between lunch and dinner.

Since you have diabetes, you should talk to your doctor or diabetes educator regarding the timing of your snacks and meals in relation to your medication, as well as, whether there is a certain number of carbohydrates that your doctor wants you to have at each meal and snack.  It is also important to monitor your blood glucose levels as you lose weight, as medications may need to be adjusted.

  • This is my 2nd day on the slim fast plan.  I really like that plan.  Sometimes I get hungry between lunch & dinner and I didn't know if I should have another snack before dinner.  I could probably stick to that plan if I ate a little something in between lunch & dinner.  I at 5'3" and also weight 220 and I'm also a diabetic and I have a lung disease that require me to take steroids which bloats me up so I'm trying to get some start on losing weight even though I'm always hungry. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

  • SaxLady718,

It may help to use the "Daily Plan" on slim-fast.com.  Here the foods you are allotted for the day are listed out for you.  You can then decide which meals you want to replace and which meal you want as your balanced meal.

On the Slim-Fast 3-2-1 Plan, you replace 2 meals with Slim-Fast Shakes or Meal Bars, dine on a third balanced meal of approximately 500 calories, and enjoy 3 snacks (100 calories each) throughout the day.

I know you can do it!

  • Thanks so much!  I've got to regroup as I've gain 2 pounds :(    However, I will start exercising tonight with a neighbor.  I have an apps for measuring caloric intake so, sigh.. I will use it since I'm not really paying attention to the sensible meal.  This morning, I had a shake and an orange, an apple for mid-snack and now for lunch, brown rice & purple hull peas (not prepared with meat).  I'll do a shake for snack and this time.....a sensible 500 calorie dinner.  I will get the swing of this andneed to stop thinking about food and plan my meals.  I do want to lose weight.

  • SaxLady718,

There is no singular "maintenance plan".  This is because each body requires a different number of calories once it reaches the goal weight.  Instead, we recommend figuring out the new calorie intake that your body needs for maintenance.  To do so, slowly switch back to "regular" foods.  Start by having another Balanced Meal (approximately 500 calories) in place of one of your Slim- Fast Shake or Meal Bars.  At the end of that week, see if you are still losing weight.  If so, add another 100 calorie snack to your day.  Continue to weigh yourself each week, and then continue to add food, 100 calories at a time, until your weight maintains itself from week to week.

As for which meal should be your balanced meal, that is totally up to you.  A calorie is a calorie no matter when you eat it.

Finally, for the most part, we recommend following the Slim-Fast Plan as much as you can.  However, we do understand that there may be days that you need to eat more meals due to events, etc.  That is okay, but you should watch the amount and types of food that you are eating.  The healthy weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week comes about from reducing your calorie intake 500-1000 calories per day.  If you have "cheat days" and eat without thinking, you could end up eating a fair amount of your weekly calorie deficit.

  • Hi, I started Slim-Fast last Thursday & found the website about a day or two ago.  So far, I've lost 3 pounds, I'm 5'4.5" and now at 171.  My goal is 135 lbs.  Now, once I reach that goal, how do I get off the plan?  Or what do I do????  I, too, tried weight watchers but I hated logging in everything.  Also, is there any advantage to eating a sensible meal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner?  While I started on Thursday of last week, I ate 3 meals during the weekend.  Can you take a break with Slimfast or should it be followed EVERY day.  I did notice that I really didn't feel like eating my normal amount.

I have a short term goal of losing 12 lbs by 11/27 which is my wedding anniversary.

  • sullysul2001,

    Congratulations on your new baby!

Slim-Fast! products can be used safely while nursing. There are no drugs, appetite suppressants or stimulants that can affect your baby or your *** milk composition. However, it is not generally recommended that nursing mothers restrict their caloric intake, as you actually need more calories while nursing (typically about 500 calories more than what you needed to maintain your weight prior to being pregnant). The American Dietetic Association suggests you select one additional serving from each area of the Food Guide Pyramid while nursing. Slim-Fast! products can make an excellent selection from the dairy group. We recommend you follow the nutrition plan recommended by your doctor.

  • Hey Ali,

I had a baby 5 weeks ago and I am breastfeeding, I weigh 224 and I am 5'6. Can you recommend a plan for me?

  • Based on your current weight and height, the standard Slim-Fast 3-2-1 Plan would be appropriate for you to lose weight.  This plan provides approximately 1200 calories per day.  To view the plan, go to slim-fast.com, and click on daily plan.
