  • Star4Liberty,

I am sorry to hear about everything that is going on right now.  It may help to talk to a friend or therapist about what you are feeling.

Emotional eating is common, and the key is that you realize that you are eating due to emotions and not due to hunger.

It may help you to start keeping a food journal.  Aside from just writing what you are eating and drinking, try also jotting down how you are feeling when you are eating.  If you can identify the specific emotions or events that make you eat, you may be able to find alternate activities to soothe you.  For instance, you may be able to call a friend, go for a walk, take a bath, or listen to soothing music.

Also, try to make sure that you are eating enough throughout the day.  It is a lot easier to end up bingeing due to emotional eating if you have not really eaten all day.  Try to at least make sure that you are getting at least 1200 calories per day.

    Sincerely,

    Ali Auerbach, MS, RD

  • My live in relationship has gone Terminus and I am now living alone.   I don't have the inclination nor the financial realities to cook so Dinner usually consist of opening up a can of something - sometimes soup which I don't care if I heat or not with a a Salad.

It''s makes monitering Calories a whole lot easier.    I have found that I do better with a good breakfast that includes a protein.    My job is physically demanding and I start fading if I don't do breakfast.   I would rather eat lighter for dinner.

There are some advantages to not having someone to cook for even if I am dying of a broken heart.

The challenge is avoiding the emotional eating.   Ben and Jerry Therapy is not good therapy at all.

My Darling Girl - When are you going to realize that Being Normal is Not a Virture. Rather.................It denotes a lack of courage.
