  • Serenity123123,

I am so sorry to hear about everything you're going through.  I hope the pain medication is helping.

If the medication causes weight gain, there is relatively little that diet will be able to fix.  However, if the weight gain is caused by the increase in appetite, then perhaps keeping a food journal, and closely following the Slim-Fast Plan will help.  Having to write everything down may help you to stop the donuts, noodles, and breads.  Try instead to fill up on fruits and vegetables.  It may be tough since it's not what you're craving, but it should help.

You may also want to consult a dietitian in your area who can consult with your physician.  Having access to your medical records may allow him/her a greater ability to offer additional suggestions.

    Sincerely,

    Ali Auerbach, MS, RD

  • Hi my name is Meagan, I am 23 years old. I have pelvic neuropathy horribly. So I walk around my house 20-30 minutes each day, try yoga, and try to make it to pool therapy 3 times a week. When everything started I was at 85 pounds but I had 4 steriod nerve block injections into my spine in August then another set in November. Right now my dr wants to continue with the blocks because they help my pain a lot but with the medication in them and taking Lyrica I have gained 30-40 pounds!! Just since September and I gained 10 pounds in a week. There are four injections each time I go in so really i have had 8 so far. With the medications I feel hungry ALL the time. I would wake up at 2am to get a sandwich. I would crave breads, doughnuts, and noodles. With my pain I have a hard time doing anything strenuous I am still working my way up. Is there anything I can do to help me lose weight while im on these types of treatments, is there a way that  I can do more? I have spoke to my dr about the weight and he put me on adderal saying I would lose weight and be able to concentrate more because of all the mediaction. I have lost some basically though because it makes me feel like I do not want to eat so then I feel like I am not getting what I need to help my body heal. Any help or advice would be great. Right now I have people who ask me how far along I am and I have had to buy 4 or 5 pairs of pants because I am gaining weight so quickly. Ive always been tiny and I am having such a hard time getting the weight off.

Thanks for any help have a wonderful night :)

    Meagan
